LPG boiler installation and servicing
Gas boiler comfort for homes off the mains
If your home isn't on mains gas, an LPG boiler gives you the same instant hot water and easy controls as a gas combi, running from a bulk tank or cylinders outside. Our Gas Safe registered engineers install, replace and service LPG boilers across rural Cornwall, Devon, Somerset and Dorset. We'll also tell you straight if a heat pump would make more sense, because for some off-grid homes it now does.

How LPG boilers differ from mains gas
On the inside, an LPG boiler is very close to a natural gas model. Many boilers come in an LPG version, and some can be converted, but the burner settings are different and the work must be done by an engineer qualified for LPG. Getting it wrong isn't an option, because LPG is heavier than air and pools at low level if it leaks.
Combi, system and regular boilers are all available on LPG, so the choice comes down to your hot water needs, just as it would on mains gas. Our guide to combi vs system boilers explains the difference.
Replacing an old LPG boiler
Older non-condensing LPG boilers can be thirsty, and with LPG priced the way it is, efficiency matters. A modern condensing boiler, set up properly with good controls, makes better use of every litre you buy.
We survey before quoting: the boiler position, the flue route, the gas supply from your tank or cylinders, and the condensate drain. Then you get a fixed price agreed before any work starts. Finance options are available on new boilers if you'd prefer to spread the cost.
Servicing LPG boilers
LPG boilers need an annual service just like mains gas ones. We check combustion with a flue gas analyser, clean what needs cleaning, test the safety devices and look over the supply pipework to the tank or cylinders.
Letting the property? LPG appliances fall under the same gas safety rules as mains gas, so landlords need an annual gas safety check by a Gas Safe registered engineer. See our landlord gas safety certificate page.
LPG or a heat pump?
Worth asking before you commit to another LPG boiler. Until March 2027, homes heated by oil or LPG with no mains gas connection can get £9,000 off an air source or ground source heat pump through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. That's £1,500 more than the standard grant.
A heat pump isn't right for every house. But if you're replacing anyway, it's worth pricing both, and we're happy to do that.

LPG boiler installation and servicing FAQs
Can my natural gas boiler run on LPG?
Some models can be converted with the right kit, some can't. It must be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer qualified for LPG. Moving house from mains gas to an off-grid property? Tell us the model and we'll check.
Who owns the LPG tank?
Often the gas supplier owns the tank and you rent it as part of your supply agreement, but it varies. Check your contract before planning any changes to the tank itself. Our work covers the boiler and the pipework from the tank.
How often should an LPG boiler be serviced?
Once a year, the same as a mains gas boiler. Landlords also need an annual gas safety check by law, which we can do on the same visit.
Is an LPG boiler cheaper to run than oil?
It depends on the prices you're paying for each, which move around a lot. We'd rather not guess. What we can tell you is that a well set up condensing boiler, of either kind, uses noticeably less fuel than an old one.
