Boiler installation in Bournemouth

Boiler installation in Bournemouth covers every sort of home, from the flats behind the Triangle to the bungalows off Castle Lane near Castlepoint. In a flat carved out of an old villa, the boiler often ends up in a cupboard never meant for one, with a flue that has to clear a neighbour's window. You see a lot of that around Meyrick Park and Talbot Woods, where the council's conservation area appraisal records how many big houses have been divided into flats. If you are in one of the houses off Wimborne Road in Winton, a straight combi swap is usually simpler, though the condensate pipe still needs a sensible route outside. For most flats a compact combi is the right answer, and we plan the flue and pipework at the survey.

We fit replacement boilers right across the area, from Southbourne and Pokesdown to Kinson and Westbourne.

Homes we work on

Local homes, local know-how

Large Victorian and Edwardian villas, many now split into flats, sit alongside interwar semis, purpose-built blocks of flats and post-war estates further north. Mains gas almost everywhere, with combis dominant in flats and system boilers in the bigger family houses.

Common jobs

Installs we do most from the cliff top to the northern estates

Interwar semis in Southbourne

Many interwar semis around Southbourne and Tuckton still have the boiler in the kitchen and a cylinder in the airing cupboard upstairs. With one family bathroom, a combi conversion clears both. Where a loft conversion has added a shower room, we usually keep stored hot water and fit a system boiler instead.

Post-war homes in Kinson and West Howe

Houses on the estates around Kinson and West Howe often have an older combi or, now and then, a back boiler. We take the old unit out, fit a new condensing combi and upgrade the controls so the boiler only fires when the house actually needs heat.

Purpose-built blocks of flats

Flats in the blocks along the East and West Cliff can have long horizontal flue runs or boilers deep inside the flat. We check the existing flue length against the new boiler's limits and, where a block has a shared vertical flue, confirm the new model is approved for it.

Before you book

Before we fit a boiler in your flat or house

If you own a leasehold flat, read the lease before the survey. It will say who owns the outside walls and whether alterations need consent. Send that request early, as some freeholders and managing agents take weeks to reply.

Parking is the other thing. Many streets near the town centre and the beaches are resident permit zones, so check your zone's rules for visiting trades or keep the drive clear on the day. In blocks with a concierge or a lift booking system, give them the date so we can bring the new boiler up and take the old one away.

Before the survey, find your gas meter and work out roughly how the pipe gets from there to the boiler. In big Victorian houses split into flats, the meter can be in a basement or a cupboard in a shared hall, and knowing that saves time. If you are moving off loft tanks, our combi conversion page explains the work.

Why Wisp

Why choose Wisp for boiler installation in Bournemouth

01

Combis for flats

One bathroom, limited space and mains pressure is combi territory. See our combi boiler installation page for how we size them.

02

Bigger houses in Queen's Park

Several bathrooms need stored hot water, so we pair a system boiler with a cylinder sized to the house.

03

Flue rules in tight streets

Building regulations set minimum distances from windows, doors and boundaries. In closely packed roads around Boscombe and Westbourne, that often decides where the boiler can go.

04

Old tanks out

Moving off an old gravity system clears the loft and the airing cupboard, and gives you stronger showers.

Questions

Boiler Installation Bournemouth FAQs

I own a flat in a converted house in Boscombe. Do I need the freeholder's permission?

Often you do if a new flue goes through an outside wall, because the walls usually belong to the freeholder. Check your lease. A straight swap in the same spot, using the same flue hole, is less likely to need consent, but it is still worth asking. We can give you a survey note to send them.

Can the new boiler go in the same cupboard as the old one?

Most of the time, yes, as long as there is room and the flue can come out where the old one did or close by. Modern boilers are often smaller than old floor-standing models, but they need clearance for servicing. If the old position no longer meets the rules, we suggest the nearest place that does.

Do I need to tell building control about a new boiler?

Your installer does it for you. Gas Safe registered engineers notify building control for new boiler installations, and you then receive a Building Regulations compliance certificate in the post. Keep it with the house paperwork, because buyers' solicitors ask for it.

Is the water hard enough here to need a scale reducer?

Yes. The local supply is hard, well above the 200 parts per million at which building regulations guidance asks for scale protection on combis and water heaters. We fit an in-line scale reducer with every new combi in the area, and a magnetic filter on the heating side to catch sludge and debris from the radiators.

My period house flat still has a back boiler behind the fireplace. Can it be replaced?

Yes. It crops up in older houses around Boscombe and Springbourne. We remove the back boiler and its cylinder, cap the gas safely and fit a combi somewhere more sensible, usually the kitchen. If the chimney is shared with the flat above, we check how it is used before anything is closed off.
