Emergency boiler repair
No heat, no hot water, or a boiler that keeps locking out.
A boiler always picks the worst moment to give up. If you have no heating, no hot water or a boiler that keeps going into lockout, our Gas Safe registered engineers will find the fault and tell you what it takes to fix. You agree the price before we start the repair. If you can smell gas, stop reading and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 first.

Smell gas? Do this before anything else
Call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999. The line is free and open 24 hours a day. They will make the supply safe.
While you wait, open doors and windows, do not use light switches or anything that could make a spark, and turn the gas off at the meter if you can do so safely. Once the emergency service has been, we can trace and fix the leak. See our gas leak repair page and our guide on what to do if you smell gas.
Quick checks before you call us
A surprising number of call-outs turn out to be something you can sort in two minutes. Worth a look first:
- Pressure gauge: most sealed systems want around 1 to 1.5 bar cold; below that the boiler may lock out
- Thermostat and timer: batteries flat, or set to the wrong time after a power cut
- Prepayment meter: credit and emergency credit on the gas meter
- Frozen condensate pipe: in a hard frost, the plastic pipe outside can freeze and stop the boiler
- Reset button: one reset is fine; if it locks out again, leave it and call an engineer
Faults we fix
Most breakdowns come down to a handful of parts. Some can be fixed on the spot; others need ordering, and we will be straight with you about which is which.
- Boiler losing pressure or leaking water
- No hot water but the heating works (often a diverter valve on a combi)
- Radiators cold or only warm at the top
- Ignition failures, lockouts and fault codes
- Banging, whistling or kettling noises
- Pumps, fans, sensors and printed circuit boards
Repair or replace?
We repair first wherever it makes sense. If your boiler is very old, parts are hard to find, or the repair bill starts to look like a big slice of a new boiler, we will say so plainly and leave the decision with you.
If replacement is the better call, we can give you a fixed quote for a new combi boiler after a survey. Keeping the boiler you have healthy is simpler with an annual service.

Emergency boiler repair FAQs
What counts as a boiler emergency?
A gas smell or suspected carbon monoxide comes first, and that is a call to 0800 111 999, not to us. After that, no heating or hot water with vulnerable people in the house, an elderly relative or a newborn for example, or water leaking from the boiler. Tell us when you call so we can prioritise.
How quickly can you get to me?
It depends on where you are and how busy the engineers are, especially in a cold snap. We will give you an honest time when you call rather than a promise we cannot keep.
My boiler pressure keeps dropping. Is that urgent?
It usually means a leak somewhere in the system or a faulty pressure relief valve. You can top it up to keep going, but if you are refilling it every few days, it needs looking at before it damages the boiler.
Do I pay if you cannot fix it on the first visit?
We agree the diagnosis and repair price with you up front. If a part has to be ordered, we explain that before you commit, and we come back to fit it.
Should I turn the boiler off if it is leaking?
Yes. Turn it off at the switch, put a container under the drip and keep electrics dry. If water is coming from near the gas pipe or you smell gas, leave the property and call 0800 111 999.
