Boiler installation in Yeovil

Boiler installation in Yeovil covers the older houses along Sherborne Road and the homes climbing Hendford Hill. If you live in a flat near the Quedam shopping centre and the boiler sits in a small cupboard, we measure carefully on the survey before recommending a model. On Ilchester Road, a busy stretch of the A37, we keep the flue away from the pavement side where we can and plan where to park before fitting day. A straight swap almost never needs planning permission, but if you are adding something bigger, such as an outdoor unit, use the council's find out if you need planning permission tool before you commit.

We carry out boiler replacement in Preston Plucknett, Houndstone, Mudford and the Cokers.

Local homes, local know-how

Common jobs

What we fit most across town and the villages

Combi conversions in post-war semis

The big post-war estates in the west of town are full of semis with a regular boiler, a cylinder in the airing cupboard and tanks in the loft. For a family with one bathroom, a combi conversion clears all of that out. We check the mains flow and pressure first, and keep the cylinder if the numbers say a combi will not cope.

Ham stone cottages in the villages

Cottages in the Cokers and the villages around town are often built of golden Ham stone, with thick walls and small rooms. Some are on gas and some on oil. We plan the flue route carefully on stone walls, and where a house is listed we check whether consent is needed before quoting.

Boiler swaps with microbore pipework

Homes built in the 1970s and 1980s often have thin microbore pipes feeding the radiators. They block more easily with sludge, and a new boiler will not fix a blocked system. We check flow through the pipework on the survey and recommend a clean or a filter where the system needs it.

Before you book

Getting a new boiler fitted without the winter scramble

The first cold snap of autumn is when old boilers give up, and diaries fill fast. If yours is old, noisy or needs topping up often, book the survey in late summer and you can choose the install date rather than taking whatever is free.

Before the survey, find any paperwork for the current boiler and note how many people use the hot water at once. If you live in one of the older Ham stone houses near the centre, check whether it is listed, as a new flue on a listed wall may need consent. If you have had problems with cold spots on radiators, mention them, as older systems on the estates here often carry sludge that needs dealing with before a new boiler goes on.

On the newer developments, check your deeds for planning conditions before asking for a flue on the front of the house. Sludge is the enemy of a new boiler's heat exchanger, so if your system needs it we will recommend power flushing before the swap.

Questions

Boiler Installation Yeovil FAQs

Our new-build boiler is out of warranty. Should we replace it?

Not automatically. A boiler from a recent development often has years left if it has been serviced. If it keeps breaking down or parts are hard to get, replacement starts to make sense. We will tell you which side of that line yours is on.

Can we get a combi boiler installation in a three-bed semi with two showers?

If both showers run at once, a combi may struggle, and a system boiler with a cylinder is usually better. If only one is used at a time, a larger combi can cope. We test flow and pressure on the survey. Our combi boiler installation page explains more.

Do you cover the villages outside town?

Yes, including East and West Coker, Mudford and Brympton. Gas work is done by our Gas Safe registered engineers, and homes on oil are looked after by our OFTEC registered engineers. The survey and fixed quote work the same way wherever you live.

We have small microbore pipes. Can a new boiler still work?

Yes, in most cases. Microbore systems work well when they are clean, but the narrow pipes block more easily with sludge. We check the flow on the survey, and a system clean and magnetic filter usually sort it. If any pipes are badly blocked or damaged, we tell you before quoting so nothing changes on the day.

Is it worth changing radiators at the same time as the boiler?

Sometimes. If a radiator is corroded, cold in the middle after bleeding, or too small for the room, replacing it with the boiler makes sense, as the system is drained anyway. If the radiators are sound, a clean is usually enough. We check them all on the survey and list any replacements as a separate option.
