Oil Boiler Installation Cornwall
For the homes the gas main never reached
We install and replace oil boilers across Cornwall, from farmhouses on the moors to cottages at the end of single-track lanes. Our OFTEC registered engineers survey first, give you a fixed quote, and look after the boiler for years afterwards with an annual service.

Oil boiler installation in Cornwall
Oil boiler installation in Cornwall reaches right across the county, from villages along the A38 near Liskeard to farms outside Helston. The government's estimates of properties not connected to the gas network for 2024 put 47% of homes in the council area off the gas grid, so oil is a mainstream choice here, not a niche one. If you're down a lane off the A39 near Camelford, tanker access decides how big your tank should be, so you aren't caught short in a wet February. On the Atlantic side, salt wind is hard on external boilers, flue terminals and steel tanks, so we specify with that in mind. Close to the Tamar Bridge at Saltash or deep in the countryside, we check the tank's condition and position before the new boiler goes in.
We fit and service oil boilers from Bodmin Moor and the Camel valley down to Penwith and the Lizard.

The oil boiler jobs we do most here
Bunded tanks for exposed sites
Old single-skin tanks on clifftop farms and moorland cottages take a beating from the weather. We replace them with bunded tanks on a non-combustible base, at least 1.8m from the house and 760mm from a boundary unless a fire wall is built. Delivery access is checked at the same time.
New flues for condensing boilers
Many older oil boilers vent into the chimney. A condensing model usually needs a balanced flue through the wall or a vertical flue, and it produces a visible plume. We pick a route that suits the house and keeps the plume away from windows and doors.
Moving the boiler out of the kitchen
Old floor-standing oil boilers take up a lot of kitchen space. We can move the new one to a utility room, an outbuilding or outside as an external model. It frees the kitchen and keeps fumes, noise and servicing access out of the living space.
Before you book an oil boiler replacement
Think about oil levels before the fit. If the tank is staying, keep enough oil in it for testing and commissioning. If it's being replaced, run it down so there's less to pump across or dispose of, and book a delivery for after the new tank is in. Tell us who your usual supplier is and how often they deliver.
We'll check the oil line, the fire valve and the filter, as old ones are often worn. If the boiler is moving, the oil line may need extending or replacing, and we'll route it where it can't be damaged. A new boiler fitted by an OFTEC registered technician comes with a CD/10 installation completion report and a CD/11 commissioning report. Keep both, as buyers and their solicitors will ask for them if you sell.
If you're weighing up oil against LPG, our guide to LPG vs oil boilers compares the two on cost, space and tank rules.
Why choose Wisp for oil boiler installation in Cornwall
Like-for-like or a rethink
Swapping an old floor-stander for a modern condensing model is the usual job. If an external boiler would free up the kitchen, we'll say so.
Servicing that goes deeper
Our oil boiler service strips and cleans the burner, changes the nozzle and filter, and checks the tank, every year.
Wells and boreholes nearby?
Lots of rural homes draw water from their own supply. A tank within 50m of a well, borehole or spring has to be bunded, and we check that on every survey.
Heat pump grant worth a look
Homes heated by oil with no mains gas can get £9,000 off a heat pump until March 2027. We'll happily price both.

Oil Boiler Installation Cornwall FAQs
Should I replace my oil boiler with another oil boiler?
For some homes, yes: a modern condensing oil boiler is reliable and much more efficient than a 20-year-old one. For others, a heat pump makes more sense with the current grant. We'll price both if you want, and our guide on oil boilers vs heat pumps sets out the trade-offs.
Does my oil tank need replacing at the same time?
Not always. If it's sound and in the right place, it can stay. If it's cracked, bulging or close to a stream or well, we'll recommend a bunded replacement. See our oil tank installation page.
Can you fit an external oil boiler?
Yes, external models are common on farmhouses and cottages where indoor space is tight. On exposed coastal sites we think hard about the position, because wind and salt shorten the life of the casing and flue.
Who services oil boilers round here?
Any OFTEC registered technician can. Our engineers are OFTEC registered, and we recommend a service every year to keep the burner clean and efficient.
What paperwork should I get after a new oil boiler?
You'll get an OFTEC CD/10 installation completion report and a CD/11 commissioning report, plus the boiler's manual and warranty registration. The CD/10 shows the work meets building regulations. Keep them with the house deeds, as you'll need them if you sell.
