Boiler installation in Padstow

Boiler installation in Padstow covers the cottages round the harbour and the homes up towards the Tesco on Sarah's Lane. Many of the houses between South Quay and Prideaux Place are second homes or holiday lets, and Cornwall Council's page on second homes explains the council tax premium that now applies, so running costs are under the microscope. A let that turns over every week needs hot water that recovers quickly between showers, and smart controls let you warm the place before guests arrive. If your cottage is near the start of the Camel Trail and sits empty through the winter, sensible frost settings stop the system seizing. We fit in the quiet season so you don't lose bookings.

We carry out boiler replacement and new boiler installs in Trevone, Treyarnon, Porthcothan and St Issey too.

Homes we work on

Local homes, local know-how

Slate-roofed stone cottages and terraces crowd the streets around the harbour, many now holiday lets or second homes, with bungalows and newer houses on the edge of town and in villages such as St Merryn and Trevone. Some homes have mains gas, while many outlying ones run on oil, LPG or electric heating.

Not every home here is on mains gas. Our OFTEC registered technicians fit and service oil boilers and we install LPG boilers too.

Common jobs

What we fit most around the estuary and the bays

Storage heaters out, wet heating in

A lot of harbour cottages and flats were heated with electric storage heaters when they became lets. Where gas runs in the street, a new connection and a combi with radiators gives faster heat and controls you can change from your phone. Off the main, LPG does the same job from a tank.

Bungalows facing the Atlantic

Bungalows around Trevone, Harlyn and Constantine Bay take the full force of westerly gales. We position flues on the sheltered side, use terminal kits suited to coastal sites, and plan the condensate route so it drains away instead of freezing on an exposed wall.

Oil boiler swaps on inland farms

Farmhouses out towards St Issey and Little Petherick often still run a floor-standing oil boiler in the back kitchen. We replace them with condensing models, inside or as an external unit, and check the tank, the fire valve and the oil line in the same visit.

Before you book

Booking work around the season and May Day

The town is at its busiest from Easter to the end of the school summer holidays, and on 1 May the 'Obby 'Oss celebrations bring thousands of people into the narrow streets. Avoid both for a boiler fit if you can. Parking near the harbour is hard to come by even on a quiet day, so tell us where a van can load.

If you're up-country, we can work from a key safe or your changeover team. Send us photos of the current boiler, the meter and any oil or LPG tank before the survey, and let us know your booking calendar so we can plan around guests. A smart thermostat added at installation lets you check the heating from home.

Much of the land around the estuary sits inside the Cornwall National Landscape. That doesn't affect a boiler swap, but it can limit where a new oil or LPG tank goes without planning permission, so we check before suggesting a spot. Our page on smart thermostat installation covers the controls side.

Why Wisp

Why choose Wisp for boiler installation in Padstow

01

Off the gas main

Out at St Merryn, Harlyn and Little Petherick, plenty of homes rely on oil or bottled gas. We fit LPG boilers and oil boilers as well as mains gas.

02

Atlantic weather

Homes looking out towards Trevose Head take serious wind and salt spray. We choose flue kits and positions that stand up to it.

03

Narrow harbour streets

Parking and deliveries in the old town need planning. We sort that out at the survey rather than on the morning of the job.

04

Control from up-country

A smart thermostat lets you warm a let before arrivals and check on it in a cold snap from wherever you are.

Questions

Boiler Installation Padstow FAQs

Our holiday cottage near the harbour has an old combi. Is a combi still right for a let?

For a two-bed with one bathroom, a well-sized combi boiler installation still makes sense and handles back-to-back showers fine. Bigger lets sleeping eight with two or three bathrooms usually do better with a system boiler and cylinder. We size it to the number of guests, not the number of bedrooms.

We're off mains gas in St Merryn. Oil or LPG?

It depends on room for a tank, access for the delivery lorry and what you run now. Oil has often been the cheaper fuel per unit of heat, though prices move. LPG tanks can go underground, which suits tight plots. Our guide on LPG vs oil boilers runs through the rest.

Can you fit it in winter so we don't lose summer bookings?

That's what we'd recommend. Book the survey in autumn and we'll fit between November and March while the cottage is quiet. We just need a key arrangement and someone to call about access. You'll get photos of the finished job and the paperwork by email, so there's no need to travel down.

Our cottage near the harbour only has storage heaters. Is it worth putting in a boiler?

Often, yes, if gas is in the street or there's room for an LPG tank. A boiler and radiators heat the cottage quickly when guests arrive and can be turned down between stays. We check the supply, the pipe routes and where a flue can go, then quote the whole system as one fixed price.

Do you cover Rock and Polzeath across the water?

Yes. The Black Tor ferry only carries foot passengers, so we drive round via Wadebridge. Homes on that side face the same salt air and holiday-let timing as the town, and we plan installs there the same way, with the survey first and the fit in the quiet months.
