Boiler repair in Bournemouth
Boiler repair in Bournemouth often starts with a tenant who is not sure who owns the boiler, in one of the converted flats near Bournemouth Pier and the town centre. It is just as common above the shops on Christchurch Road in Boscombe or in the streets around the Victorian arcade in Westbourne. If you rent, your landlord is responsible for repairing the boiler, so report the fault to them or the agent in writing straight away. If you own and money is tight, ask us for the cheapest safe fix and we will tell you if it is only a short-term patch. It is also worth seeing if you qualify for the Warm Home Discount, a one-off winter discount on the electricity bill for eligible households.
Our heating engineers cover boiler breakdowns across the area, from Throop and Muscliff to Southbourne and Tuckton.
Homes and heating systems
Many boilers here sit in rented flats and shared houses, so they often go years with only the minimum attention between gas safety checks. Sludge in old radiator circuits and scale from the hard water both shorten the life of pumps and heat exchangers, and fitting a magnetic filter after a repair is a sensible way to slow that down.

Breakdowns we deal with most across the town
Shared houses with no heating
A combi in a five-bed shared house in Winton or Charminster can run almost non-stop through winter. When it fails, it is usually the fan, the pump or a worn diverter valve. We report straight to the landlord or agent with the fault and the price, so tenants are not left chasing.
Condensate pumps in basement flats
Garden and basement flats in converted period houses often need a condensate pump to lift waste water up to a drain. When the pump fails, the boiler locks out. We replace the pump, clear the pipe run and make sure its cut-off is wired in so the warning is obvious next time.
Controls rather than the boiler
In larger homes in Queen's Park and Talbot Woods, a no-heating call is often a failed motorised valve, a dead wireless thermostat or a programmer that has lost its settings. We test the controls first, because replacing a working boiler part to fix a thermostat fault wastes your money.

Before you ring about a broken boiler
Read the pressure gauge and the fault code before you ring, and check the gas is on at the meter. In flats with a prepayment meter, running out of credit is a common reason a boiler will not light, and it takes seconds to rule out. Note too whether the radiators, the taps or both have gone cold.
Tell us where the boiler is and how we get in. A converted period house can mean a shared front door, a meter in the basement and a boiler at the top of three flights, and knowing that up front means we bring the right kit. In permit streets, a visitor permit or a space on the drive saves time on the day.
If the boiler has failed more than once this winter, ask whether the system needs cleaning. Sludge is behind a lot of repeat pump and heat exchanger failures, and a power flush can stop the same fault coming back.

Boiler installation BournemouthBoiler Repair Bournemouth FAQs
My flat's combi gives hot water but no heating. What's wrong?
Often a sticking diverter valve, a faulty programmer or thermostat, or air in the system. If the boiler fires for the taps but the radiators stay cold, check the thermostat is calling for heat and the timer is on. If it still will not heat, it needs an engineer.
I rent in Boscombe and the boiler's broken. Who pays?
Your landlord, in almost every case. Landlords are legally responsible for keeping heating and hot water working. Report it in writing to them or your agent and keep a copy. If you damaged it yourself that changes things, but an ordinary breakdown is theirs to fix.
Is it safe to keep resetting my boiler?
Once or twice, yes. If it locks out again straight away, stop. Repeated resets can hide a gas supply, flue or ignition fault, and some of those are safety issues. Note the fault code, and anything you heard or smelled, and give us a call.
The boiler works but some radiators in my flat in a period house stay cold. Why?
In flats carved out of older houses, the radiator pipework is often a patchwork of old and new runs. Air pockets, sludge in the older pipes and stuck radiator valves are the usual causes. Bleeding sorts out air. If a radiator is cold at the bottom, that points to sludge, and the system needs cleaning rather than a new boiler.
My combi bangs and gurgles when it heats up. Can it be repaired?
Banging or kettling usually means scale or sludge is restricting the flow through the heat exchanger, so it overheats in patches. With the hard water round here it is a common complaint in older combis. Sometimes a chemical clean and a filter sort it. If the heat exchanger is badly scaled or cracked, we price the part so you can compare it with a new boiler.
