Boiler repair in Camborne and Redruth

Boiler repair in Camborne and Redruth covers every street along the A3047 between the two towns, from Plain-an-Gwarry in Redruth out to Tolvaddon. Winters along this ridge are more wet and windy than bitter, but solid stone cottages lose heat fast once the boiler stops. If you're on Illogan Highway or one of the side streets nearby and the boiler locks out on a January morning, call us and we'll give you the repair price before we start. If energy bills or a repair are a worry, Citizens Advice has a clear guide to grants and benefits to help pay energy bills, covering the Warm Home Discount and supplier hardship funds. We'll also give you an honest word if an old boiler isn't worth more money.

We take boiler breakdown calls in Tuckingmill, Troon, Beacon, Lanner, St Day and Carharrack.

Homes we work on

Homes and heating systems

Breakdowns here often involve older floor-standing and back boilers in the terraces, where parts are getting harder to find, and combis in ex-council homes that suffer from pressure loss and blocked condensate pipes. Prepayment meters are common in rented homes, and the outlying hamlets bring oil and LPG faults too.

Not every home here is on mains gas. Our OFTEC registered technicians fit and service oil boilers and we install LPG boilers too.

Common jobs

The breakdowns we see most in local homes

Pilot lights and thermocouples

Older open-flued boilers in the terraces still use a pilot light. When a thermocouple wears out or the pilot is blown out by a draught down the chimney, the boiler won't stay lit. It's a common and usually affordable fix, as long as the parts are still available for your model.

Damp corroding controls

Cold, damp stone walls can corrode wiring centres, programmers and terminal blocks, especially in a lean-to back kitchen. We find the corroded part, replace it and suggest ways to keep the space drier, so the same fault doesn't come back next winter.

Sludge in older pipework

Systems that have run for decades without a clean fill up with black sludge. It blocks radiators, clogs the pump and can stop a combi's heat exchanger from doing its job. We clear the blockage, then suggest a magnetic filter so the system stays cleaner afterwards.

Before you book

Quick checks when the heating stops

If you're on a prepayment gas meter, check the credit first. When it runs out, the gas supply cuts off, and after topping up you may need to press a button on the meter and relight or reset the boiler. It's one of the commonest reasons for a no-heat call, and it costs nothing to check. If the hob won't light either, the problem is the gas supply, not the boiler.

In a frost, look at the condensate pipe where it leaves the house. On exposed streets it freezes fast. Pour warm, never boiling, water over it and reset the boiler. If it happens every cold snap, we can reroute or insulate the pipe.

If the boiler is old and breaking down often, a cover plan or a planned replacement may cost less than repeat repairs. Our page on boiler cover explains how annual plans work, and we'll always be straight about whether a repair is worth it.

Questions

Boiler Repair Camborne and Redruth FAQs

The boiler in our Illogan house keeps losing pressure. Is that dangerous?

Not usually, but it means a leak or a faulty part. Common causes are a weeping radiator valve, a failed expansion vessel or a pressure relief valve that's letting by. A heating engineer can trace it; topping up every week just hides the problem.

Is it worth repairing an old floor-standing boiler in a terrace?

Sometimes, if parts are still made and the heat exchanger is sound. Many of those models are obsolete now, though, and one failure can eat a big slice of the cost of a new boiler. We'll give you both figures and let you choose.

What should I do if my carbon monoxide alarm goes off?

Get everyone out into fresh air, leave the doors open and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999. Don't use the boiler again until a Gas Safe engineer has checked it. If anyone has a headache, dizziness or nausea, get medical help.

We're on a prepayment gas meter and the boiler won't light. Is it broken?

Check the meter first. If the credit has run out or the emergency credit has been used, the gas supply stops. Top it up, follow the meter's instructions to restore the supply, then reset the boiler. If it still won't light, call us and we'll check for a fault.

Our boiler is in a cold lean-to at the back. Why does it keep failing in frosty weather?

Cold spaces cause frozen condensate pipes, frozen pipes to the boiler and damp in the electrics. We can insulate the pipework, fit trace heating or a frost thermostat, or move the boiler into a warmer part of the house when it's next replaced.
