Boiler repair in Frome
Boiler repair in Frome takes us all over town, from the houses along Rodden Road to the homes near the community hospital on Enos Way. If you live off Berkley Road close to Badgers Hill, mention any home match when you call so we can plan parking. Down by Wallbridge, where traffic queues on the A362, an early slot is usually easiest for everyone. We quote the repair before we start, and if a cheaper fix will keep you safe and warm for now, we say so. If heating costs are a worry this winter, see the council's help with heating costs.
Our heating engineer covers Fromefield, Keyford and Trinity, plus Beckington and Nunney.
Homes and heating systems
Most repairs in town are on gas combis and older regular boilers with loft tanks in stone cottages. In the villages, oil boilers make up a lot of the call-outs, with LPG in places too. Ageing gravity-fed systems, sludge in old radiators and oil supply problems are the faults we trace most often here.
Not every home here is on mains gas. Our OFTEC registered technicians fit and service oil boilers and we install LPG boilers too.

Repairs we are called out for most often
Oil boilers after running dry
When an oil tank runs empty, the boiler can draw sludge and air into the fuel line and lock out even after the tanker has been. We bleed the line, change the filter and nozzle if they have clogged, and get the burner firing cleanly again, then check the tank for water.
Pumping over on old gravity systems
Older cottages with loft tanks sometimes push hot water out of the vent pipe into the feed and expansion tank. It wastes heat and lets air into the system, which causes rust and sludge. We trace the cause, often a pump setting or a blocked pipe, and put it right.
Combis with heating but no hot water
On the newer estates on the edge of town, a common call is a combi that heats the radiators but gives no hot water, or the other way round. That is usually the diverter valve or a flow sensor. We confirm which part has failed before ordering anything, so you only pay for the right fix.

Quick checks before you book a repair
A few checks can save a wasted call. Look at the boiler pressure, make sure the programmer and thermostat are calling for heat, and check the fused spur and the fuse box. On oil, check the tank level with a dipstick or gauge, as a faulty gauge reading is a common cause of an unexpected run dry.
Write down any fault code and the make and model from the boiler's data badge. On older oil boilers, the burner model on the side helps too. It means we can check parts before we arrive.
On market Sundays the centre is closed to traffic from early morning, so an engineer may have to park outside the closures and walk the last stretch. Access matters in the old town. If you are on a steep or narrow lane, let us know where we can park. If your boiler is getting on and faults keep coming back, our guide on how long a boiler lasts helps you weigh up repair against replacement.

No heat, no hot water

Boiler installation FromeBoiler Repair Frome FAQs
My boiler is showing a fault code. Can I reset it myself?
One reset following the manual is fine. If it locks out again, stop there, as repeat lockouts usually mean a real fault such as a blocked condensate pipe or failing fan. Note the code and tell us when you book, as it helps us bring the right part.
Do you repair oil boilers in the villages?
Yes. Our OFTEC registered engineers work on oil boilers out towards Mells, Rode and Great Elm, as well as LPG systems in the villages. Tell us the make and model when you call, and whether the tank was recently filled, so we can plan the visit and bring the right parts.
Is a boiler breakdown covered by my home insurance?
Standard home insurance rarely covers the boiler itself, though some policies add home emergency cover as an extra. Check your documents before you book, as you may already be paying for it. For the future, our boiler cover plans spread the cost of repairs and servicing.
We ran out of oil and the boiler will not start after the delivery. What now?
Wait an hour or so for sediment in the tank to settle, then press the reset button once. If it still will not fire, air or sludge has probably got into the fuel line or filter. Stop resetting at that point, as repeated attempts can flood the combustion chamber. Book a repair and our OFTEC engineer will bleed and clear it.
The tank in our loft is overflowing. Is that the boiler?
If it is the small tank, it is often a stuck ball valve, or the system pumping water out of the vent pipe. If it is the large cold tank, the float valve has usually failed. Turn off the water supply to the tank if you can, and book a visit. We find the cause rather than just changing the valve.
