Boiler installation in Frome

Boiler installation in Frome often starts with a narrow doorway and a steep street, from the little shops on Catherine Hill to the cottages along Vallis Way. If your home is down by Stony Street, we work out where to stop and how the old boiler comes out before fitting day, because the cobbles and the gradient leave little room. Many older walls in the centre are thick rubble stone, so a new flue needs careful drilling and a route that keeps the terminal off the street side where possible. Much of the old town is in a conservation area, so look at the conservation area maps and appraisals if you are not sure where your boundary sits.

We carry out boiler replacement from Fromefield and Berkley Down across to Nunney and Beckington.

Homes we work on

Local homes, local know-how

Seventeenth and eighteenth century stone cottages in Trinity and around the old centre, Victorian terraces on the hills, and newer estates on the edges of town. The town is on mains gas, while some outlying villages rely on oil or LPG.

Not every home here is on mains gas. Our OFTEC registered technicians fit and service oil boilers and we install LPG boilers too.

Common jobs

What we fit most in the town and villages

Regular boiler to combi in stone cottages

Small rubble-stone cottages around the old centre often still run a regular boiler, a hot water cylinder and two tanks in a tiny loft. Swapping to a combi frees the airing cupboard and the loft. We check the mains flow first, because older supply pipes in narrow lanes can be too small for a combi to perform.

Oil boiler and tank replacement

Out in the villages, many homes have an oil boiler and a single-skin tank that are both near the end of their life. We replace them together, with a bunded tank sited to the current distance rules from the house and boundary, so you do not pay twice for disruption.

System boilers for larger Victorian houses

The bigger Victorian houses on the hills often have three or four bedrooms, a family bathroom and an en suite. A combi struggles there, so we usually fit a system boiler with an unvented cylinder, sized from a proper heat loss check so the bigger rooms warm up properly.

Before you book

Planning an install around narrow lanes and market Sundays

Many of the oldest streets are steep, cobbled or too narrow for a van to stop outside. Tell us when you book where we can park and how far we will carry the boiler, as it affects the timing of the job. On the first Sunday of the month from March to December, the market closes roads in the centre from early morning to evening, so we do not book installs there on those days.

Rubble-stone walls are thick and uneven. Drilling a new flue hole takes longer than in brick and makes dust, so we sheet everything and plan the hole carefully before we start.

If you are on oil, have a look at where your tank sits. Rules on fire protection and distances from the house and boundary apply when a tank is replaced, and some older tanks are too close. Our page on oil tank installation explains what changes and why.

Why Wisp

Why choose Wisp for boiler installation in Frome

01

Space-saving combis

Cottages rarely have room for a cylinder. Combi boiler installation clears the airing cupboard and gives you hot water on demand.

02

Moving the boiler

Want it out of a tiny kitchen? Boiler relocation to a loft or utility is common in older terraces here.

03

Villages off the gas grid

Some homes out towards Mells and Great Elm run on oil or LPG. Our OFTEC registered engineers handle those too.

04

One quote, fixed

Your price covers the boiler, flue, controls, system flush and making good, agreed before work starts.

Questions

Boiler Installation Frome FAQs

Can a new boiler go in a Trinity cottage without spoiling the front?

Usually, yes. Most cottages have a rear wall or yard we can flue through, and plume kits let us move the terminal away from windows and doors. If the property is listed, outside changes may need consent, and we check that before quoting.

We have an old back boiler behind the gas fire. Can you take it out?

Yes. Back boilers turn up in plenty of older terraces around Keyford and Badcox. We decommission it safely, cap the gas, and fit a new boiler in a better position. Our back boiler replacement page explains the job in more detail.

Is finance available on a new boiler?

Yes. You can spread the cost of a new boiler with finance, subject to status. We go through them with you after the survey so you can compare monthly payments against paying upfront, with no pressure either way. The fixed quote stays the same whichever way you choose to pay.

Does our oil tank have to move when we replace it?

Sometimes. A tank within 1.8 metres of the house, or close to a boundary, needs fire protection or a new position to meet current rules. Many older tanks were placed before those rules applied. We check the site on the survey and tell you whether the existing spot works, and if not, where the new tank can go.

Our cottage kitchen has no outside wall. Where would a new boiler go?

There are usually options. A flue can run through a ceiling void to a side wall, go up through the roof, or the boiler can move to a back bedroom, loft or under-stairs cupboard with an outside wall. We look at every route on the survey and explain the cost of each, so you can choose.
