Boiler Installation Christchurch

Bungalows, harbour cottages and cliff-top homes

We install new boilers in Christchurch, including Mudeford and Highcliffe, after surveying the house properly first. You get a fixed quote, a boiler sized to how you actually use heat and hot water, and Gas Safe engineers who leave the cupboard tidier than they found it.

Boiler installation in Christchurch

Boiler installation in Christchurch takes in everything from the cottages in the lanes below Christchurch Priory to the semis and bungalows off Barrack Road. Bungalows are a big part of the picture here: the council's Mudeford and West Highcliffe area profile counted detached bungalows as nearly a third of all homes in the wards around Mudeford. In a bungalow the boiler often sits in the kitchen with a cold water tank in the loft above, which is the classic setup for a combi conversion. If you live in one of the roads off Fairmile Road near the hospital, taking the tanks out frees space and gives you mains pressure hot water. Some of the older houses can need new gas pipework as well, and we check that at the survey.

We fit new combi boilers across the area, from Purewell and Stanpit to Walkford and Highcliffe-on-Sea.

Homes we work on

Local homes, local know-how

Bungalows are a big share of the stock, especially around Mudeford and West Highcliffe, alongside 1930s houses at Friars Cliff, 1980s and 1990s estates at Bure Lane and early 19th-century cottages along Stanpit and Fisherman's Bank. Mains gas throughout, with many tank-fed systems still in place.

Common jobs

Boiler swaps we do most in bungalows and harbour homes

Floor-standing to wall-hung

Older bungalows around Somerford and Burton still have a floor-standing boiler in the kitchen, often boxed into a corner. We replace it with a wall-hung model, reroute the pipework and give you back a good stretch of worktop. The old flue position rarely suits the new boiler, so we plan a fresh route at the survey.

Scale protection on combis

The water here is hard, and limescale builds fastest in a combi's hot water heat exchanger. Building regulations guidance calls for scale protection on combis where hardness is above 200 parts per million, so each combi we fit locally gets an in-line scale reducer on the cold feed.

Stored hot water in bigger Highcliffe homes

Larger detached houses in Highcliffe and Walkford often have a family bathroom, an en suite and a cloakroom shower. We size a system boiler and an unvented cylinder to how your household actually uses hot water, and put the cylinder where the old one stood so you do not lose another cupboard.

Before you book

Planning a swap in a bungalow or a harbour-side home

In a bungalow, most of the work happens in the loft and the airing cupboard. Clear a path to the loft hatch before the survey and again before the install, because we need to reach the tanks and see where the pipes run. If the loft is not boarded, we lay crawl boards where we need to walk.

Around Mudeford Quay and Stanpit, parking is hard to find on fine summer days, so keep the drive free for the van if you have one. On the low ground near the harbour and the rivers, think about height: a wall-hung boiler well above the floor is far easier to save after a flood than one at skirting level.

Have a year of gas bills to hand so we can see how much the house uses, and mention any plans for an extension or a loft conversion. A combi chosen for a two-bedroom bungalow may struggle once a second bathroom goes in. Our guide on what size boiler you need explains what we will ask.

Why Wisp

Why choose Wisp for boiler installation in Christchurch

01

Combi conversions

A combi conversion is the most common upgrade in single-storey homes: tanks out, cylinder out, one compact boiler in.

02

Cliff-top flue positions

On the exposed roads above the beach at Highcliffe we keep flue terminals out of the prevailing south-westerly wind where the layout allows.

03

Harbour cottages

Early 19th-century cottages along Stanpit and Fisherman's Bank sit in a conservation area, so we plan any visible flue change with that in mind.

04

Spread the cost

Finance options are available on new boilers, so a full system upgrade does not have to come out of savings in one go.

Questions

Boiler Installation Christchurch FAQs

Can a combi boiler go in a bungalow loft?

It can, though it is rarely our first choice. Lofts get cold, servicing access is awkward and the condensate pipe needs protecting from frost. If the loft is boarded and lit with a fixed ladder it can work well. Most bungalow owners end up with the boiler in the old airing cupboard space instead.

Will a combi give enough hot water for a two-bathroom house in Mudeford?

For one shower at a time, a correctly sized combi is fine. Two at once is where it struggles, and the mains pressure in your road makes a difference too. We test the flow at the kitchen tap during the survey and tell you if a system boiler would serve you better.

Do you take the old tanks out of the loft?

Yes. As part of a conversion we drain and remove the cold water tank, the small feed and expansion tank and the hot water cylinder, then cap the old pipework safely. Most people turn the airing cupboard into storage afterwards.

Do I need a water softener with a new combi?

Not necessarily. Because the local water is hard, a new combi needs scale protection, and an in-line scale reducer usually does that job. A whole-house softener is a bigger decision, and if you fit one you should keep an unsoftened tap in the kitchen for drinking. We explain both options at the survey and fit whichever you prefer.

How disruptive is a combi conversion in a bungalow?

Expect the water to be off for part of the work and the heating off until the new boiler is commissioned. The messiest part is draining the loft tanks and getting them out through the hatch, which sometimes means cutting a tank into pieces. Most people stay at home throughout, and we give you a likely timescale at the survey.
