Boiler installation in Ferndown

Boiler installation in Ferndown covers homes right across the town, from the roads near the shops at Penny's Walk to the larger detached houses along Golf Links Road. Most homes here went up during the 20th century, mainly detached houses and bungalows on decent plots, as the council's area profile for the parish describes. That era brings a familiar set of jobs. If you are just off Ringwood Road with a gas fire in the lounge, there may be a back boiler behind it, and swapping to a combi gets rid of it along with the loft tanks. If your bungalow off Wimborne Road East has the boiler in a kitchen wall cupboard, a modern combi gives you most of that space back. Older cottages around Longham can need a little more planning.

We fit replacement boilers across the area, from Tricketts Cross and Stapehill to West Moors and West Parley.

Homes we work on

Local homes, local know-how

Mostly low-density detached houses and bungalows built through the 20th century on generous plots, with a few older cottages around Longham, Hampreston and West Parley. Mains gas is standard and many homes still have their original tank-fed or back boiler systems.

Common jobs

Installs we do most in bungalows and big-plot homes

Boilers moved out of the kitchen

In plenty of detached homes and bungalows here, the old boiler fills a kitchen wall cupboard. Generous plots and attached garages usually offer somewhere better: a utility room, a garage wall or the old airing cupboard. We move it as part of the swap and reroute the gas and condensate to suit.

Heat pumps and hybrids on larger plots

Big gardens give room for an outdoor heat pump unit well away from neighbours' windows. For homes not ready for a full switch, a hybrid system pairs a heat pump with a gas boiler that tops up on the coldest days. We price both against a straight boiler swap.

Gravity systems in older cottages

Some older cottages around Longham and Hampreston still run gravity hot water, where the cylinder heats by convection rather than a pump. We replace it with a fully pumped system and modern controls, so the water heats faster and the new boiler can run as efficiently as it was designed to.

Before you book

Getting ready for a bungalow or detached house swap

In a bungalow, the work often reaches the loft, where the old tanks and pipes run. Make sure the hatch is clear and tell us if the loft is boarded. If the plan is a combi conversion, we drain the tanks and take them out through the hatch, so anything stored around them needs moving first. If the loft has no light, tell us and we will bring one.

Detached homes off Ringwood Road and around Tricketts Cross usually have drives, which makes access easy. Clear the drive for the van and warn the neighbours if the job will be noisy, for example when an old back boiler comes out of the chimney breast.

Think about the next ten years before the survey. If you might extend, add a bathroom or fit solar panels, say so, because it changes the boiler size and whether a cylinder makes sense. Read about hybrid heat pump installation if you are weighing up a lower-carbon option.

Questions

Boiler Installation Ferndown FAQs

Can you remove a back boiler from a bungalow in West Parley?

Yes. It is one of the more involved swaps, because the old boiler sits behind the fire with pipework often buried in the chimney breast. We remove it, make the fireplace safe and fit the new boiler in a better spot, usually the kitchen or the old airing cupboard. The survey tells us how much pipework needs replacing.

Will a new boiler cut my heating bills?

Usually, if you are replacing an old non-condensing boiler, but we will not promise a figure. The saving depends on the age of your current boiler, how well the house is insulated and how you use the heating. A modern condensing boiler with decent controls is a real step up from one fitted in the 1980s or 1990s.

Will I need a certificate when I sell?

Buyers' solicitors usually ask for the Building Regulations compliance certificate for any boiler fitted since 2005. Your installer notifies building control through their competent person scheme and the certificate is posted to you. Lost yours? The scheme can usually supply a copy.

Is a heat pump realistic for a 1970s bungalow?

It can be. Many bungalows from that era have cavity walls and lofts that are easy to insulate, which helps a heat pump run efficiently. Some radiators may need upsizing. We calculate the heat loss room by room before recommending one, and an MCS-certified install can qualify for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant towards the cost.

Can my new boiler go in the garage?

Usually, yes. Modern room-sealed boilers can go in a garage, and many bungalows around West Parley and Stapehill have an attached one. Frost is the main concern, so we insulate the pipework and route the condensate inside where we can. If you plan to convert the garage later, tell us now so the position still works afterwards.
