Boiler installation in Clevedon

Boiler installation in Clevedon covers the Victorian villas off Hill Road and every street down to the seafront. If you live near the Triangle and its clock tower, there's a good chance your house sits in a conservation area, where a flue on a wall facing the road can need planning permission. North Somerset Council explains the extra controls on its conservation areas page, and we route flues to a side or rear wall, or up through the roof, to keep the front clean. If you're along Old Church Road, past the Curzon cinema, and your house has radiators on three floors, a system boiler with an unvented cylinder often beats a combi. Close to the Marine Lake, we also plan flue positions around the wind off the Severn.

Our engineers carry out combi boiler installation in Kenn, Kingston Seymour and Walton-in-Gordano as well as on the estates east of the town centre.

Homes we work on

Local homes, local know-how

Victorian and Edwardian villas climb the hill above the pier, with older stone houses in the conservation area, then inter-war and post-war semis and later estates on the flatter eastern side towards the M5. Mostly mains gas, with many of the larger period houses still on a regular boiler and cylinder.

Common jobs

What we fit most in the Victorian houses and the estates

System boilers for tall period houses

The big houses on Hill Road and around the Triangle often have bedrooms on three floors and two bathrooms. A system boiler with an unvented cylinder copes with showers running at once and keeps strong pressure at the top of the house, which a combi on a modest mains supply can struggle with.

Combi swaps on the eastern estates

The inter-war and post-war semis towards the motorway are usually one-bathroom homes that suit a combi. Many already had one fitted in the 2000s, so the job is often a straight replacement on the same wall, with new controls and a magnetic filter added.

Scale protection for very hard water

Bristol Water describes its supply as moderately hard to very hard, and limescale is what shortens a combi's hot water side. Every combi we fit here gets a scale reducer on the incoming main, and we flush the system before the new boiler goes on.

Before you book

Planning a new boiler in a period house

If your house sits in the conservation area or is listed, decide early where the flue will go. Keeping it in the existing hole is quickest. Moving it to a road-facing wall can mean a planning application, and listed building consent needs drawings and time, so build that into your plans before booking a fit date.

Period houses with high ceilings and big sash windows lose more heat than the boiler on the wall might suggest, and many have had radiators added piecemeal over the decades. We do a room-by-room heat loss check so the new boiler is matched to the house rather than to the old one's label. Note any rooms that never get warm and tell us at the survey.

Parking on the steep streets near the seafront can be tight, especially on sunny weekends. Let us know about drives, permits or a spot where a van can load. If the old system has loft tanks you'd like gone, read our guide on heating a listed or period home first, as keeping them sometimes suits older pipework better.

Why Wisp

Why choose Wisp for boiler installation in Clevedon

01

Keep the regular boiler, or not

Plenty of houses on Hill Road and Highdale still run a regular boiler with loft tanks. Sometimes keeping that layout is the right answer, and we'll tell you when.

02

Back boilers out

Some 1950s and 60s semis still hide a back boiler behind the gas fire. We take it out and fit the new one somewhere useful: see back boiler replacement.

03

Wind off the estuary

Houses on the front take a battering from the Severn. We pick flue positions where the plume won't be blown back against windows.

04

Straight pricing

A free survey, a fixed quote in writing and finance options on a new boiler if spreading the cost helps.

Questions

Boiler Installation Clevedon FAQs

Will I need planning permission to change the boiler in my period house near the pier?

Not for a straight swap that reuses the existing flue hole. It gets trickier if the flue has to move onto a wall facing the street in the conservation area, or if the house is listed. We flag it at the survey and suggest a route that sidesteps the question where we can.

Our Walton St Mary house has a combi that can't run two showers. What are the options?

Either a larger combi with a higher flow rate, if your incoming mains can feed it, or a system boiler with an unvented cylinder. We measure the mains flow and pressure on the day. The numbers decide it, not a sales pitch.

Can you fit a new boiler in a top-floor flat in a converted period house?

Usually, yes. The tricky part is the flue, which may need to go out through the roof, and the freeholder may have to agree. We'll go through the lease points with you before we quote, so there are no surprises for a boiler replacement in a shared building.

Our period house has radiators on three floors and the top ones are always lukewarm. Will a new boiler fix that?

Only if the boiler is the problem, and often it isn't. Old pipework, unbalanced radiators and sludge are more common culprits. We test the system first. Sometimes a clean, a pump upgrade and proper balancing fix the top floor before anything else changes, and we'll tell you if that's the case.

Can a new boiler go in the cellar of our house near the seafront?

Often, yes, as long as the flue can reach outside safely and the space stays dry. Cellars in the older houses can be damp, so we check for water getting in and keep the boiler and electrics well off the floor. A cellar position also leaves the kitchen walls free.
