Boiler installation in Lyme Regis

Boiler installation in Lyme Regis is a job of steep streets and sea air, from the flats above the shops on Broad Street to the homes along Marine Parade. Many older houses are rendered or slate hung because the local Blue Lias stone weathers badly, so a new flue hole through old render needs real care, especially on a listed building. The council's conservation area appraisal for the town also records that land behind Marine Parade is prone to slipping. If your home looks out towards the Cobb, salty wind is hard on flue terminals and outside pipework, so we choose flue positions with that in mind. Up the hill on Silver Street and Pound Street, getting the new boiler in and the old one out takes a bit of planning, and we sort that at the survey.

We fit new combi boilers across the area, from Uplyme and Rousdon to Charmouth.

Homes we work on

Local homes, local know-how

Georgian and Regency houses, Victorian villas and small cottages on steep streets, many in soft Blue Lias stone that has been rendered, stuccoed or slate hung, with thatch on some older rows. Mains gas in town; outlying homes often on oil or LPG.

Not every home here is on mains gas. Our OFTEC registered technicians fit and service oil boilers and we install LPG boilers too.

Common jobs

What we fit most on the steep streets and in the villages

Combis in holiday cottages

A lot of small cottages here are let to visitors for part of the year. We fit compact combis that deliver hot water quickly for short stays, add controls the owner can check from home and plan the install between bookings so no let is lost.

Regency houses and Victorian villas

Larger Regency houses and Victorian villas on the higher roads often have three floors and more than one bathroom. A system boiler with an unvented cylinder suits most, and we place the cylinder on a middle floor so the top-floor shower is not starved.

Heat pumps for village homes off the main

Newer and extended homes towards Uplyme and Rousdon that are off the gas main can suit an air source heat pump. We work out the heat loss first, site the outdoor unit away from the worst of the wind and help with the Boiler Upgrade Scheme paperwork.

Before you book

Planning around hills, lets and the summer crowds

From Easter to the end of the summer holidays, the town fills up and parking near Broad Street and the seafront is scarce. Unless the boiler has failed, book an install between autumn and early spring, when we can get the van closer and work without blocking a busy lane. Some of the old lanes are too narrow for a van to stop in at all.

If you let your cottage, bring the booking calendar to the survey. An install needs the property empty, so we look for a gap between changeovers and allow time to run the heating before the next guests arrive.

Parts of the town sit on ground known to move. If your house has a history of cracks or movement, tell us, and we will check that the flue joints and buried pipework are sound before fitting anything new. Our page on combi boiler installation explains how we size a combi for a small cottage.

Why Wisp

Why choose Wisp for boiler installation in Lyme Regis

01

Small cottages, compact boilers

Cottages on Sherborne Lane and Coombe Street rarely have room for tanks or a cylinder, so a compact combi frees up valuable space.

02

Steep street access

Where a van cannot stop outside, we plan deliveries and parking before the day, not on it.

03

Exposed seafront homes

On houses facing the sea we choose flue terminals and fittings suited to salty, exposed spots wherever the manufacturer offers them.

04

Oil and LPG in the villages

Outlying homes off the gas grid often run on oil or LPG. See LPG boiler installation for how that works.

Questions

Boiler Installation Lyme Regis FAQs

Can you fit a boiler in a listed cottage near the Cobb?

Often, yes, with listed building consent for anything that alters the fabric, such as a new flue. We look at existing openings, internal walls and rear elevations first so the change is as discreet as possible. Speak to the council's conservation officer early; it is far easier than changing plans later.

Does sea air really shorten a boiler's life?

It mostly affects the parts outside. Salt speeds up corrosion on flue terminals, external condensate pipes and metal brackets, and homes right on the front feel it most. A sensible flue position helps, and an annual service catches corrosion before it causes a fault.

My house out towards Uplyme is off mains gas. What are my options?

Oil, LPG or a heat pump are the usual choices. Which suits you depends on space for a tank, how well the house holds its heat and your budget. We survey and price the options side by side rather than pushing one.

Is a combi enough for a holiday cottage that sleeps six?

It depends on the bathrooms. With one bathroom, a well-sized combi copes. Add an en suite and guests showering one after another in the morning, and a small system boiler with a cylinder is often the better choice. We test the mains flow at the survey, because that sets the limit for any combi.

Do you cover Charmouth?

Yes. Charmouth is on our patch, along with Uplyme and Rousdon. Homes close to the beach there get the same salt and wind as the seafront, so we plan flue positions the same way. If your home is off the gas grid, we fit oil and LPG boilers as well as gas.
