Boiler installation in Wimborne Minster

Boiler installation in Wimborne Minster covers the old streets around the Minster and the Square just as much as the newer homes out along Leigh Road. If you live on West Borough or one of the streets off the Square, you are in the conservation area, and a good number of the houses there are listed. The council's conservation area guidance for the town points out that some works normally allowed elsewhere, such as satellite dishes on walls facing the road, need planning permission here. A flue on a front wall can fall into the same territory, so we look for a rear or side route first. In a listed house we talk you through listed building consent before anything is drilled. Out towards the Canford Bottom roundabout, homes are newer and a combi swap is usually more straightforward.

We fit new boilers across the area, from Colehill and Merley to Pamphill and Corfe Mullen.

Homes we work on

Local homes, local know-how

A Georgian market town core of brick and colour-washed houses under slate roofs, many listed, ringed by Victorian and Edwardian villas and semis, then later estates at Colehill, Merley and Leigh Park. Mains gas in the town; some outlying farms and cottages run on oil.

Not every home here is on mains gas. Our OFTEC registered technicians fit and service oil boilers and we install LPG boilers too.

Common jobs

What we fit most in the town and its villages

Combi conversions in Colehill and Merley

Many family houses in Colehill and Merley were built with a regular boiler, a cylinder and loft tanks. With one bathroom or a small en suite, a combi conversion frees the airing cupboard and gives you mains pressure showers. Where there are two full bathrooms, we fit a system boiler and an unvented cylinder instead.

Oil boilers and heat pumps on farms

Farms and cottages out towards Stanbridge and down the Pamphill lanes often run on oil. We replace worn oil boilers with modern condensing models, and where the house holds its heat we also price an air source heat pump, with help applying for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant.

New cylinders in town-centre houses

Georgian and Victorian houses in the centre often hide an old copper cylinder in a landing cupboard. Swapping it for an unvented cylinder gives mains pressure hot water upstairs without a pump, and the cold water tank can come out of the loft.

Before you book

Before you book: rivers, old walls and narrow streets

Parts of the town sit close to the Allen and the Stour, and the Environment Agency's flood warning area for the Allen covers streets including Knobcrook Road, Mill Lane and East Street. If you live there, plan the new boiler position high, keep controls off the floor and avoid a ground-level garage.

In the old centre, parking near the Square and the Minster is tight, and some houses open straight onto the pavement. We plan where the van goes and how the old boiler comes out before the day, and we may need a permit or a short-stay space close by.

If your home is listed, start the consent conversation early. The council has a statutory eight-week target for most listed building consent decisions, so get the survey done first and use our flue and pipe details in the application. Our guide to heating a listed or period home covers the usual questions.

Why Wisp

Why choose Wisp for boiler installation in Wimborne Minster

01

Care with old interiors

We plan new gas and condensate runs so they do not scar old plaster or cornicing, and agree the route with you before any boards come up.

02

Edwardian semis and period houses

On the roads leading out of the centre, turn-of-the-century period houses with two bathrooms usually suit a system boiler and a cylinder.

03

Moving the boiler

A kitchen cupboard boiler in an older town house can often move to a utility room or loft. More on boiler relocation.

04

Off the gas grid

Some outlying farms and cottages run on oil, and we cover oil boiler installation across Dorset as well.

Questions

Boiler Installation Wimborne Minster FAQs

My house on West Borough is listed. Can I still have a new boiler?

Yes. Replacing a boiler inside a listed building is routine, but anything that alters the fabric, like a new flue hole, pipe runs through old walls or a vent in a visible spot, may need listed building consent. We plan the least intrusive route at survey and give you the technical details the council will ask for.

Do you cover the villages, such as Pamphill?

Yes, we cover the surrounding villages too. Many Pamphill cottages belong to the National Trust's Kingston Lacy estate, so if you are a tenant there, check with the estate before planning any changes to the heating. Corfe Mullen, Colehill and Merley are all on our patch too.

Is a combi right for a three-storey town house?

Not always. In a tall house the top-floor shower can be a long pipe run from the boiler, and incoming water flow matters too. We test it at survey. For many three-storey Georgian houses, a system boiler with a cylinder on the middle floor works better.

Can I have a heat pump instead of an oil boiler on a farm near Stanbridge?

Often, yes, if the house holds its heat. Farmhouses with solid walls and single glazing may need insulation work and some bigger radiators first. We work out the heat loss room by room and price both a new oil boiler and a heat pump. An MCS-certified heat pump install can qualify for the £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant.

Is it worth upgrading the controls when I replace the boiler?

Usually, yes. Building regulations already expect proper time and temperature control with a new boiler. In the bigger houses on the roads out towards Colehill, zoning upstairs and downstairs separately can stop you heating empty rooms. We suggest controls that suit how you use the house, from a simple programmer to a smart thermostat.
